Maneuverability
The small wheel base and the off-road tire equipment with 80cm diameter are a good basis for an all-terrain vehicle. The double-ackermann kinematics allow for tight turning circle of Ø4m. Furthermore, crab steering with a sideward angle of up to 20° is possible.
Vehicle Safety
The robot features an industrieal safety system which permanently monitors the vehicle status and shuts down the drive in case of emergency. Furthermore, the robot can be shut down via and emergency stop button at the rear side of the robot, a safe remote emergency stop, and the safety bumpers at the front and rear bumper bar.
Plug-n-Play
The integrated Linux PC provides interfaces for the two C++ robot control frameworks ROS and finroc. That way, the platform is operational in no time. Besides the control of the drives, the control PC also computes kinematics and odometry. Furthermore, the commands of the joystick and the other control interfaces are processed simultaneously and passed to the drive system in a fused fashion. This cooperative control approach allows for the integration of autonomous navigation systems with remote supervision of an operator.
